Upcoming TLDs / .src

Can you register a .src domain?

Not yet: applied for
The short answer
Not yet. .src is not in the DNS root, so no registrar can sell a .src domain today. It is one of 986 strings applied for in ICANN's 2026 new gTLD round, published October 7, 2026. 2 applicants want it (CORE Association and Stichting NLnet), and only one can run it.

What .src would mean

In their own words, from the public part of each application (question 118):

'src' is shorthand for 'source' in the sense of source code.

CORE Association

The name refers to 'source' as in 'source code', the (human readable) instructions that can be compiled into computer software or hardware.

Stichting NLnet

When will .src be available?

ICANN has not set a date. The final list of applied-for strings comes on String Confirmation Day (November 17, 2026), community input and objections run until March 16, 2027, and ICANN processes applications after a prioritization draw in 2027. Registration opens only after ICANN delegates .src and its registry announces launch dates.
