Upcoming TLDs / .sync

Can you register a .sync domain?

Not yet: applied for
The short answer
Not yet. .sync is not in the DNS root, so no registrar can sell a .sync domain today. It is one of 986 strings applied for in ICANN's 2026 new gTLD round, published October 7, 2026. One applicant wants it: Procyon Exploration, Inc..

What .sync would mean

In their own words, from the public part of each application (question 118):

"Sync" is an established informal English noun and verb, a shortening of "synchronise" and "synchronisation," meaning to bring two or more things into alignment in time or state, and the condition of being so aligned, as in "in sync."

When will .sync be available?

ICANN has not set a date. The final list of applied-for strings comes on String Confirmation Day (November 17, 2026), community input and objections run until March 16, 2027, and ICANN processes applications after a prioritization draw in 2027. Registration opens only after ICANN delegates .sync and its registry announces launch dates.
